How to combat Winter skin

Winter is tough on all skin types; cold winds, cranked up central heating and low humidity all take their toll – particularly on skin prone to sensitivity. So we asked the lovely people at Pai to tell us how to combat Winter Skin.

Beauty

Winter is tough on all skin types; cold winds, cranked up central heating and low humidity all take their toll – particularly on skin prone to sensitivity.

If you haven’t already, winter is the perfect time to detox your routine. Switch to products that are free from alcohol and detergents like SLS (sodium lauryl sulphate), which can strip away the skin’s natural oils to leave it dry and irritated. A gentle, creamy cleanser, like Pai Camelia & Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser, will thoroughly clean away dirt and pollutants without upsetting the natural balance of the skin.

Most people suffer from some degree of redness during winter – ranging from rosy red to a full on Rosacea flare-up. If wintery rosy cheeks start to creep into ‘Rudolph’ territory, reach for a redness-busting moisturiser such as our Chamomile & Rosehip Calming Day Cream.

The drier air in the cooler months can also cause skin to look dull and lacklustre. Help the skin’s natural surface cell turnover with gentle exfoliation 2-3 times a week – but, if you suffer from patches of flakey skin, don’t be tempted to exceed this. Instead, follow exfoliation with 2-3 drops of Rosehip oil combined with your moisturiser, to help deeply repair, replenish and condition the skin.

Increasing your intake of Vitamin C-rich fruit and vegetables (or adding a cold pressed Detox Kitchen juice!) can also help to boost your collagen production, to plump up and brighten your complexion...and they’ll also help to protect you from the winter colds doing the rounds at this time of year!
