Magic Breakfast Charity Partner

Over half a million children in the UK arrive at school each day too hungry to concentrate and learn. And so we are thrilled to announce that we are now partnered with charity Magic Breakfast to donate funds for nutritious breakfasts as fuel for learning.

For every breakfast sold as part of our Vegan home delivery package, we’re donating funds to provide a child in need a nutritious breakfast and wrap-around support at school. Think of it as a breakfast for a breakfast. It's been shown that this support can boost a child's educational attainment by as much as 2 months’ additional progress per year.

Magic Breakfast is a registered charity (England and Wales: 1102510; Scotland: SC048202) providing healthy breakfasts to over 40,300 UK children every school day as essential fuel for learning. A hungry child cannot concentrate and will miss out on the most important lessons, taught in the morning, if not given anything to eat.

There are 480 Magic Breakfast partner schools - primary, secondary, SEN schools and Pupil Referral Units – over 180 of which are in London. Independent research shows that disadvantaged pupils in schools providing Magic Breakfasts get a boost to their educational attainment. For Y2 pupils, this is an average of 2 months extra progress in reading, writing and maths per year.

Carmel McConnell MBE founded Magic Breakfast after she interviewed five headteachers in Hackney who all told her the same thing, that the biggest barrier to them being able to teach was hunger among their pupils. Shocked to hear this was happening on the doorstep of a global financial centre, Carmel started buying and delivering breakfast food to these five schools. This was in 2001, but as demand for her help continued to grow Carmel re-mortgaged her house, then founded Magic Breakfast in 2003 to continue the charity’s mission to end hunger as a barrier to education everywhere.
