MOVE MORE WITH LULULEMON IN 2019
This week we're talking about movement and how to feel motivated to move more, in whatever format that might be. We spoke to Leo Savage, Personal Trainer at Third Space and Lululemon Covent Garden Ambassador, shares his tips to motivate you to move more in 2019...
"Hear the words “movement” or “move more” – particularly in the context of the New Year - and people will often jump to thinking about exercise, perhaps feeling intimidated or even demoralised. However, this is a common misinterpretation, exercise is only a type of movement. The act of moving refers to the basic tasks our bodies have been built to carry out; walking, running, carrying, bending and picking things up to name a few. These are all things we may be capable of doing, but there are often easier alternatives that require us to exert less energy.
Increasing our level of movement throughout the day through simple changes, such as increasing the number of steps we take each day, choosing the stairs over lifts and escalators, and carrying shopping bags, can have a huge positive impact on our bodies. Moving effectively and without pain are goals for every single one of my clients, alongside our other individual and specific ambitions. Here are a few of my fail-safe tips for introducing more movement into your life.
GIVE YOURSELF MORE TIME
Whatever it is you have to do, if you give yourself more time to do it, you will allow yourself the option of considering alternatives to the easiest, quickest way. For example, try leaving the house 15 minutes earlier to walk to the station instead of driving or hopping on the bus. Allow yourself the time and space to relax, and you will find more opportunities to move. BE REALISTIC
When it comes to your health and wellness, consistency is important. One of the most effective ways to achieve this is by building strong foundations, and this means setting – and celebrating – attainable goals. If you weren’t going to the gym, running 10km or attending a class every day last week, then don’t set yourself the expectation of being able to do that now. Instead, try making adjustments to move more in your everyday routine, or exercising for two days a week. When you have been doing this for a good amount of time, you will naturally find your capacity to move has increased, signaling the opportunity to challenge yourself further.
Another key factor that will contribute to staying consistent is actually looking forward to working out. Whatever it is that makes you sweat - going to the gym, dancing, cycling, walking with friends - if you enjoy it, do more of it. Lululemon 19 in 19
