Get the Ultimate Winter Glow

It's official, winter is quickly approaching. So as we say farewell to our beloved Birkenstocks and dust away our winter coats, The Detox Kitchen has been busy preparing delicious winter warming recipes designed to help nourish and protect your skin this winter.

Food

For many of us this time of year doesn’t just symbolize hot cocoa and cosy sweaters. The freezing temperatures, low humidity and furnace-blasted dry air can leave your skin dry, flaky and itchy. So as we all reach for moisturisers and treatments let’s not forget what a huge importance our diets hold in skin cell renewal. Ensuring your diet is packed with skin-loving, nutritious food can take your skin from winter-OUCH to winter-WOW!

Here are our top food nutrients, which not only pack a flavour punch but also give you the power to fight winter skin.

Vitamin C – This nutrient is involved in the production of collagen, which improves skin elasticity and protects skin from free radicals. Cauliflower is very rich in vitamin C; why not try cauliflower rice with turmeric for an extra burst of flavour.

Vitamin E – This nutrient helps protect cell membranes while guarding your skin from UV and environmental damage. Spinach s a great source of vitamin E, wonderful in juices, smoothies, soups or salads.

Beta-carotene – This nutrient is involved in growth and repair of body tissues and also protects the skin from UV damage. Sweet potatoes contain a high level of this nutrient, delicious baked as wedges with a sprinkling of paprika.

Selenium- This antioxidant mineral helps retain the skin’s firmness and elasticity while also protecting the skin from weather damage. Brazil nuts have such a huge content of this nutrient you only need a couple to do the trick!

So we say go out and enjoy a crisp winter walk or brave the winds on the way to work, just be sure to rustle up a bowl of goodness at the end of the day!
