Our friends at Pai Skincare have shared their four pointers for keeping your skin healthy and happy, this season.

First up, hydration

When the weather is hot, we’re so much better at drinking plenty of water and moisturising regularly. But often these good habits fall to the wayside once the mercury drops. Dry, itchy skin is calling out for moisture, so firstly make sure to drink plenty of water, even if you’re not hot! Next up, skincare. Hydrating serums are genius because the molecules inside are so tiny, they can deliver water deeper into the skin.

Our Back To Life Hydration Serum uses all-natural Hyaluronic Acid which cleverly holds 1000 x its weight in water, getting moisture right in there. For everyday nourishment, find a moisturiser free from irritants and preservatives. Our Day Creams are targeted to every skin concern. For redness-prone skin we recommend our bestselling Chamomile & Rosehip Calming Day Cream, our Geranium & Thistle Rebalancing Day Cream is formulated specifically for blemish-prone, oily and combination skin while dry and dehydrated skin loves our Avocado & Jojoba Hydrating Day Cream.

Lock it down

There’s a lot of confusion over the role of oils in skincare. An oil can’t actually hydrate the skin as it contains no water, so shouldn’t be used as a replacement for moisturiser. What they can do which our Rosehip Bioregenerate Oil does amazingly well, is feed the skin with nourishment from all the Omegas 3, 6, 7 & 9, and antioxidant carotenoids inside. Another great benefit of oils is that they have the ability to lock in any moisture you’ve already got in your skin. Which is particularly helpful this time of year when the central heating begins to get cranked up. So think of them as a nutrient-rich top coat – and make sure you apply them as the final step in your skincare routine, after your moisturiser.

Swerve hot soaks

Nothing beats a really long, really hot bath right? Actually if your skin is feeling irritated, that’s the worst thing you could do right now. When skin is exposed to hot water, its natural lipids begin to break down. And as we’ve already mentioned, it is lipids – or oils – that help the skin hold in its precious moisture. Shorter baths and showers with warm – never hot – water will be your friends this autumn. If skin still feels dry and itchy after bathing, replenish all that hydration with a rich body cream. We happen to think our Comfrey & Calendula Calming Body Cream is the best there is!
