Herbs & Spices - Ginger
Pungent, sharp, slightly lemony and peppery, fresh ginger root is one of our favourite ingredients. It adds a lovely freshness to any dish and always features in the base of our curries and broths.
FoodIt’s amazing how food will suddenly come alive with the addition of some herbs or spices. However sometimes we all just need a little guidance as to what goes best with what and when to add certain things in when cooking. This is why we will be looking at each of our favourite herbs and spices in turn on our blog, letting you know exactly how to get the most out of them.
Ginger
Pungent, sharp, slightly lemony and peppery, fresh ginger root is one of our favourite ingredients. It adds a lovely freshness to any dish and always features in the base of our curries and broths. Choose a plump-looking root: wrinkly ones will be fibrous and dry. We often don’t bother to peel ginger but just grate it with the skin on.
If you're feeling under the weather, chop up a thumb sized piece of ginger and pair with the juice of half a lemon and hot water to start your day. Not only is ginger a natural pain and fever reducer, it also increases circulation helping to remove toxins and viruses from the body.
Now put your newfound knowledge to use:
Whip up our Carrot, Cabbage and Kale Slaw with Ginger and Chilli Dressing. This dish may be light and beautiful, but it packs a serious flavour kick. With the heat of the chilli and the warming properties of ginger, this salad is a real immunity booster.
