The Nutrient Superheroes

We have been looking into our new favourite nutrient powerhouses and how they can benefit the body. our favourites include fermented foods, parsley, turmeric and our favourite...avocado!

Health

Keeping up with what is and isn't healthy for you can be confusing! Here at The Detox Kitchen we believe in simply eating a well balanced diet, based on plant foods and lean protein. There are however some specific foods we do beg you to try, and here is the reason why..

1) Turmeric – the ultimate anti-bloating remedy

Gone are the days when we would leave the Turmeric spice pot untouched in the cupboard for months on end. An anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and powerful antioxidant, this delicious spice is loaded with protein, dietary fiber, potassium, magnesium and vitamin C, E and K. Enjoy in tea, curries or soups and you will soon see improvements in your immune system, weight and digestion.

2) Fermented Foods- an unlikely new friend!

Remember Sauerkraut? That funny looking German food you were never too sure about, well that little fermented food is your new best friend! Not only is it packed with enzymes and vitamins but it will also help your body absorb vital nutrients, restore the balance of bacteria in your gut and improve your digestion.

3) Avocados- the smarter butter

There is a reason why we have all gone avocado crazy. They jazz up any brunch plate, they thicken any smoothie, and they add creaminess to every salad- what is not to love? They are also loaded with healthy fats, fiber and various vital nutrients, again- we love! What most people are unaware of is that they pack more potassium than a banana, a nutrient many of us are insufficient of and something which is vital for a healthy heart, so let’s continue the avocado love- and spread the news like butter!

4) Parsley – but not as you know it!

The pretty Mediterranean herb that has lent a sprinkling of colour to bland plates for years. But let’s not just dismiss Parsley as simply a garnish- no; it may just be the main event! A vitamin powerhouse that keeps your bones and nervous system healthy, as well as your immune system. It also aids in digestion and liver function and may even help control your blood pressure. Hold the cheese, pass the parsley!

So next time your are rummaging through the spice drawer or being sparse with the Parsley, just consider what these humble friends can do to transform your food and your health!
