Female Faces of the Brand: Lily Simpson

Allow us to introduce Lily, the one and only, our founder... This International Women's Day, we are celebrating all the wonderful women we work with; we are taking this opportunity to introduce you to some of the fabulous female faces behind the brand. This week, we are also launching a special IWD recipe booklet, featuring a collection of delicious recipes from top female chefs and will be donating to Women for Women International. Read on for more information or to get your hands on the recipe booklet.

Community

I am Lily, the founder of Detox Kitchen. It feels as though the last 12 years have gone by in a flash so this is a great opportunity to reflect on all the amazing women we have worked with over the years. It’s also a chance to think about the positive impact we have on so many women’s lives and, having recently been at an event speaking to our new and old customers, I was reminded of some incredible stories where DK played the role in helping reconnect people with the importance of nourishment, both nutritionally and spiritually.

What inspires you?

It depends what I’m looking for inspiration in… if it’s food, I love seeing my friends cook things that they love, I think the best recipes are those stolen from loved ones or handed down through families. In general I’m inspired by my family and friends and wider community, anyone that is bringing kindness, humour and creativity in the world is an inspiration in my book!

What does your day usually look like?

I’m currently on maternity leave and have decided to take some proper time off, Coco is my fourth baby and I wanted to make sure I had enough time for my other kids too during this precious time. So my day starts early around 6.30, my husband Ed makes breakfast for us all whilst I get Coco up and feed her. We all have breakfast together and then off to school and off on a long walk for me, I’ll walk round Hyde Park or Regent’s Park and sometimes head to Hampstead Heath. Then an easy lunch, I’ll read a book or listen to a podcast and it’s about time to pick the kids up. We’ll all eat together, meal times are the most important thing in our home, a chance to chat an out the day ahead or the day gone by, it’s often where the most laughter is, or tears!! Bed is 9.30, although I’m now venturing out of the house in the evenings so I might pop out to see a friend if I’m lucky!

What is your daily non-negotiable?

Breakfast and Dinner together, plus 8 hours sleep, if I have all those I’m pretty cheery!

3 wellness tips/habits you swear by...

  1. An Epsom salt bath
  2. An eye mask at night
  3. A daily walk in nature.

What is your favourite cuisine?

Tough one. Probably Italian or Middle Eastern.

Your favourite DK meal?

The black dal.

Dish or recipe you make most often?

Either a chopped salad or a dal, usually both together!

Death row dinner?

A big bowl of buttery fresh pasta with some fresh black truffle.

What is your favourite form of movement?

Walking and running.

What is your favourite quote or mantra?

It’s cool to be kind. It’s our family mantra! I also like this quote: ‘I am myself, plus my surroundings, and if I do not preserve the latter, I do not preserve myself’.
